Student’s website inspires young people to reach their dreams
Enterprising student Ramario Depass has become a global success after creating a motivational website to help fellow young people achieve their goals.
Ramario, 18, who is studying Government & Politics, Religious Studies and Sociology in his A2 year at Havering Sixth Form College, set up the website, called Quoting Quotes, to inspire others to be a success.
And the site, which is already receiving thousands of hits each day, has caught the attention of a company in America which has offered Ramario a large sum to buy the idea from him. He has refused to sell it and now wants to develop it even further.

Informative Open Day helps students make subject choices
Around 1,000 prospective students interested in attending the College came along to the Open Day held on Saturday January 14th,to find out about courses and facilities for September 2012 admission.
There were a number of formal presentations on a variety of subjects and informal drop-in sessions throughout the day where staff, students and tutors from around 75 different courses were available to answer questions from visitors.

Netball girls give staff the run around in charity match
A fun netball challenge match was held between staff and the Havering Sixth Form College netball team – with the netball team proving the champions!
The friendly game, which was held to raise money to buy the team new kit, ended in a 6-2 win for the girls.

One of the great annualtraditions at Havering Sixth Form College is the creation of Christmas Hampers for needy people – and this year caring students did themselves proud.
The festive hampers are put together by tutor groups who decorate a box and fill it with goodies and gifts.

Spooky Ghost Walk gives students the jitters!
Havering Sixth Form College students experienced a night of frights they will never forget when they took part in the annual Halloween Ghost Walk!

Medical student Ryan set for volunteering mission in Nepal
Former student Ryan Burnett came back to College this week to raise awareness and promote fundraising for the VSO (Voluntary Services Overseas).
Ryan, 20, gave out doughnuts for donations, spoke to students and distributed leaflets about the work the VSO does in Third World countries and in the UK.

Five-star treatment for Travel & Tourism students
Havering Sixth Form College students were given a taste of luxury when they were treated to a behind-the-scenes tour and five star lunch aboard a holiday cruiseliner.
The Upper Sixth students, who are all studying on the Travel and Tourism Diploma coursesvisited the Fred Olsen Cruise ship,Breamar, which was docked at the port of Dover.

Swiss visit gives students chance to see Physics in action
To get their A2 course off to an exciting start, 21 Physics students made a visit to CERN – the European Organisation for Nuclear Research – in Geneva, Switzerland.
After flying out from Gatwick Airport, the students spent an evening sightseeing and eating together in an Italian restaurant, before staying overnight at a Geneva Youth Hostel.

Students on the Enrichment Survival Cookery course at Havering Sixth Form College took advantage of the weather and dished up tasty treats for a summer picnic.
They cooked a variety of snacks, including sandwiches, sausage rolls, pizza, cakes and ice cream to enjoy as part of their last lesson of the course. |

This event, which runs from 9.30am to 1.45pm and is aimed at Lower Sixth students, is not to be missed as it will provide information on the various options available to students when they leave the sixth form.

Students have been out and about in the local community acting as volunteers for the Upminster Windmill Preservation Trust.
The 12 Havering Sixth Form College students, who are all taking the Events Management Enrichment course, have been busy in Hornchurch and Upminster town centres, handing out leaflets calling for people to get involved in making sure the windmill receives funds for its restoration.

Conference and cakes boost Christian Union fundraising
Students from Havering Sixth Form College’s Christian Union have been kept busy this year with a number of fundraising and social events.
The CU, which has between 40 and 50 members, has raised more than £300 for the College’s partnership charity EducAid. This amount will be enough to educate two children for a year in Sierra Leone in a school set up by the charity.

Tasty treats raise cash for Comic Relief
Staff from the ICT department at Havering Sixth Form College got into the spirit of Comic Relief by putting a smile on students’ faces with a food stall.
The smell of sizzling sausages, toast and pancakes filled the ICT centre corridors as teachers and other staff gave up their break time to cook some delicious food for students to buy.
The tasty treats raised a total of £85 for Comic Relief. |

The group of 21 students spent the day at the University in Clerkenwell, London taking advantage of the opportunity to find out all about preparing for life after A Levels.

Warm congratulations were paid to Havering Sixth Form College student Elizabeth Joyce along with other members of the upper sixth A Level Music group who organised a recital at St Edward’s Church, Market Place, Romford.
The event was supported by parents, friends and members of the St Edward’s congregation and a total of £64 was raised for the College’s partner charity, EducAid which provides free secondary education for youngsters in Sierra Leone, Africa.

Havering Sixth Form College’s Open Days proved a great success with Year 11 pupils and their parents – many saying they had found subject presentations “excellent” and the staff and students welcoming and friendly.
