Guidance on applying to University for 2012

• All applications for undergraduate courses at UK Higher Education institutions must be made through UCAS – the Universities and Colleges Admissions

• Applications can be sent to UCAS from the start of September www.ucas.com/Apply using the College buzzword (which will be given to you at the end of June) which registers you with this College

• Applicants are allowed to choose 5 courses (though they are limited to four choices in dentistry, medicine and veterinary science)

• The fee is currently £11 for a single choice and £22 for up to 5 choices which is paid by credit/debit card online.

• Applications for medicine and dentistry and all Oxbridge applications must be completed by an earlier deadline of 15th October.

• All other applications must be submitted to UCAS by 15th January 2012 although we will encourage students to submit their applications by the end of October

 • The College adds a reference and a prediction of the A2 grades (or equivalent) before sending it to UCAS

•UCAS then forwards the application to the universities that have been chosen.  The universities do not know where else you have applied

•The University will reply by letter giving you a decision. If successful, you will receive an offer of a place which will be conditional on you achieving certain grades at A2 or equivalent. You can also check your UCAS TRACK account as this will be updated as soon as an offer is made.

• Once you have heard from all of your choices, you must decide which offers to keep.  You can hold one firm choice (which means you will go there if you get the required grades) and one insurance (which is usually a lower offer in case you do not get the grades required by your first choice)

• If you don’t receive any offers, from mid-March to the end of June, you can make a further application for any course where there are still vacancies through the UCAS “Extra” process

• If you hold no offers when the results come out, or if your exam results do not match up to your offers, you can enter the clearing system.  You can then apply for any course vacancies subject to your grades

• On receiving your results in August 2012, your place will be confirmed on UCAS TRACK
