Awards Evening Highlights more success for Havering  Sixth Form College Students

AWARDS EVENING HIGHLIGHTS MORE SUCCESS FOR HAVERING SIXTH FORM COLLEGE STUDENTS.

On Tuesday 20th May 2008, an Awards Evening was held for students on a variety of one year courses. Thirty one students were presented with awards for work and commitment by Mr Ian Maynard, a director of Rapp Collins, an advertising agency.

HAVERING SIXTH FORM COLLEGE STUDENTS MAKE A PRESENTATION IN FRONT OF THE MAYOR

On Monday 19th May, a presentation was carried out by Executive PA students at Havering Sixth Form College in the presence of Georgina Galpin, the Mayor of Havering.  The students organised an educational trip to Mallorca and visited several tourist attractions, which they recorded and photographed.

HAVERING SIXTH FORM COLLEGE NOW A WORLD SCHOOL!

Havering Sixth Form College has succeeded in its application to become a fully authorised International Baccalaureate centre, and is now officially designated as a ‘World School’. This is an enormous achievement for the College and means that from September this year, students at the college will have the choice of being able to study for the internationally recognised, high status International Baccalaureate Diploma.

Havering Sixth Form College is joining with the growing number of schools across Europe to offer the Diploma, which means that students who enrol at the college will now have an even greater choice of programmes to choose from.

Money raised for Maya

HAVERING SIXTH FORM COLLEGE STUDENTS & STAFF COLLECT FOR MAYA

Students and staff at Havering Sixth Form College dug deep into their pockets last Thursday. A classroom collection raised over £1,100 to help Maya, a seven year old girl who is at Edwin Lambert school in Hornchurch.  Maya, who has an aggressive brain tumour which is untreatable in the UK, has been given only 2 months to live.   Her only hope of survival is pioneering treatment in America, for which her parents are desperately trying to raise money.
(The total raised now stands at £1,185.65 - 13.5.08)

School's Tennis Championships for 2008 - Success for Havering Sixth Form College

SCHOOL'S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR 2008 - SUCCESS FOR HAVERING SIXTH FORM COLLEGE!

Havering Sixth Form College students Luke Woollen, Michael Donovan, Scott Tungatt & Bradley Tungatt reached the last 8 in the British School’s Tennis Championships for 2008.  They got through to the national finals in Bolton, where they competed against the remaining 8 schools in a bid to be the national champions, eventually losing in the semi-finals to Hills Road.

Art Students make their mark on Havering

ART STUDENTS MAKE THEIR MARK ON HAVERING!

Art students at Havering Sixth Form College have been taking part in a workshop run by community arts organisation Studio 3 Arts. The workshops, which have been conducted at various locations throughout the Borough, are part of a project to design a landmark piece of art that will eventually reside outside the newly refurbished Hornchurch library.

Rosie Ross, the Project Manager, sculptor Stephen Stockbridge and fine artist Lorna Jiezot, spent three days at the College last week with students on the BTEC National Diploma in Art & Design course. Head of Art and Design, Janet Arthur, was absolutely delighted that the students had had the opportunity to work with professional artists on such an important piece of art. “The students have been totally focussed and absorbed by the project. It has been an excellent opportunity for them to contribute their ideas in a way that will live on in the local area.”

Two Havering Sixth Form College students have been offered positions as trainee chartered surveyors with Fusion Project Management in Chelmsford.

James Walker (17) and Christopher Wrench (18) applied for the positions  when Fusion advertised opportunities for sixth formers to join their company as trainee chartered surveyors. This was a fantastic opportunity for ambitious and high achieving students to join a prestigious company which is offering an excellent salary (including private health), a high level of training and payment of tuition fees for day release to University over 5 years leading to Chartered Surveyor status.

Xmas Hampers for local charities

HAVERING SIXTH FORM COLLEGE STUDENTS SUPPORT LOCAL CHARITIES AT CHRISTMAS!

Students at Havering Sixth Form College have been busy creating hampers of food, toiletries and toys which will be donated to various local charities this week. Each tutor group within the College creates their own individual hamper with some groups creating hampers containing food stuffs, whilst others are more specialised, for example, aimed at a family with young children.

World Aids Day

RED RIBBONS MARK WORLD AIDS DAY AT HAVERING SIXTH FORM COLLEGE

Students at Havering Sixth Form College organised the distribution of red ribbons and condoms on Friday 30 November in order to commemorate World Aids Day. Every year students go around the college giving out red ribbons and free condoms in order to raise awareness among students of sexual health issues with particular emphasis on HIV & AIDS. Posters are also placed around the college reminding students of the safe sex message. Any money raised during the day goes to various AIDS organisations.

HAVERING SIXTH FORM COLLEGE MUSICAL SHOWCASE!

A phenomenally wide range of musical styles including Bill Haley, Mozart, Gershwin and the Zutons were enjoyed by an enthusiastic audience of staff, parents and students at Havering Sixth form College in November 2007.  Organised by the College’ s Director of Music, Jonathan Venner , the Concert is part of an extensive programme  of events produced by the College’s  Creative and Media Department.

Sean Moss & Damien Rogan through to the second round in maths olympics

HAVERING SIXTH FORM COLLEGE STUDENT THROUGH TO SECOND ROUND IN MATHS OLYMPICS!

Havering Sixth Form College student Sean Moss (16) got through to the second round of the prestigious British Mathematical Olympiad. Sean, formerly a Hall Mead pupil, competed against over 1,200 other entrants in the first round of the gruelling 3 ½ hour competition held in November. Sean was awarded a Distinction which means that he was in the top 25% of successful students.

Havering Sixth Form College is pleased to announce their acceptance as a ‘candidate school’ to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.  It is hoped that this will eventually lead to the College becoming an IB ‘World School’.
