Learning & Achieving

At Havering Sixth Form College, we believe that ‘Learning how to Learn’ begins when learners make sense of where they are in their learning, where they are going, and how to improve; in other words, when they start to become independent learners.

We believe that students learn how to learn most effectively when they:

* are resilient and resourceful;
* are responsible for their own learning;
* are well organised and well equipped;
* are capable of reasoning;
* are able to reflect on their own learning;
* are interested and motivated;
* achieve success and gain recognition;
* are challenged and stimulated;
* clearly understand the task;
* are confident, feel secure and are aware of boundaries;
* are valued and happy; and
* are respectful and considerate of others.

We believe that excellent teachers:

* are responsible;
* are learner focused;
* are adaptable;
* are challenging;
* are professionally informed;
* are organised and efficient;
* are passionate about their subjects;
* are inspirational; and
* are good communicators

In 2008, our overall A level Pass Rate was over 98% with many subjects achieving 100% pass rates. We believe that is something to be proud of and we aim to equal or exceed this target in years to come.
