Course Guidance
Choosing your Programme
Choosing a programme of study at Havering
Sixth Form College depends on a number of
factors. In the main, it is sensible to choose
subjects that you enjoy and are good at. If
you have a firm career aim you need to find
out whether any subjects are essential.
Broadly speaking, there are three levels of
study at Havering Sixth Form College. The
level you choose will be determined by your
GCSE results. Please be aware that different
subjects, within a level of study, may have
different entry requirements.
Level three study includes A levels, Applied A
levels, ILEX Diploma and BTEC National
courses. To take a level three course you
need to have a minimum of one grade B
and four grade Cs at GCSE, normally
including Maths and English. Sometimes the
offer for a particular subject or combination
of subjects may be much higher than this.
Level two study includes GCSEs, Applied
GCSEs, ILEX Certificate and BTEC First
courses. To take a level two course you need
to have mostly Ds or Cs at GCSE. If you do
not have Maths or English GCSE at grade C,
a re-sit in this subject will be part of your
course.
Level one study is offered through the BTEC
Introductory Certificate in Business which is
combined with the BTEC Introductory
Certificate in Sport & Leisure. To take this
course you will need to have a good
reference and be determined to succeed in
a vocational environment.
