Events planning – Travel & Tourism students find out the facts on festivals
Travel and Tourism students learned about festival organisation and events management when they were visited by Laurie Edmonds from the Brentwood Festival 2017 team.
Laurie gave a presentation to the students which included information about job roles at the event, health and safety, finance and sponsorship.
She also spoke about volunteering at the festival, which this year is running from July 14th to 16th with acts including Heaven 17, Go West, Jocelyn Brown, The Real Thing, Status Quo and Midge Ure. There is also weekend camping available, a VIP area, food village, festival market and a fairground.
The students took notes on Laurie’s talk for their Travel & Tourism BTEC Extended Diploma Unit on safety at events, security and getting the right acts. They were also offered work experience opportunities with many of them signing up to volunteer this summer.
Travel & Tourism tutor Lisa Barwick said: “Laurie was a great motivational speaker and really enthused the students about the Brentwood Festival, which is a big event and so local to us. Many of them have been offered work experience and volunteering at the festival, which will be very beneficial on their CVs.”
