Top honours for students at Awards Evening

Students who have worked hard, achieved success and shown outstanding commitment to their studies were celebrated at an Awards Evening at College.

Attended by parents, governors and staff, the evening was a chance to acknowledge and applaud those students who have dedicated themselves to achieving the best they possibly can this year.

Bursary awards of either a laptop or £400 were presented to six exceptional students for excellent progress, determination and attitude in their subject area. These special awards are handed out in memory of five members of staff from the College and one student who all sadly passed away while working or studying here.

Many other young people were rewarded for improvement, commitment, reliability and outstanding attendance.

Principal Paul Wakeling said: “This awards presentation is a favourite evening of mine because it gives us the opportunity to celebrate the memory of former staff and to reward our students for their effort and performance. We are proud to be honouring all the young people here tonight for their outstanding attitude.”

He added: “These students have really stepped up this year. At some point they decided they would make a real difference to themselves, and they have committed to learning, attending lessons, doing homework and engaging in their lessons. They are a credit to themselves, a credit to the College and a credit to their families. I’m sure they will go on to do great things in the future.”

Governor Joy Johnston, a former student herself, presented the certificates. The Bursary Award winners were:
