Students celebrate fantastic A Level results
Students were celebrating excellent results as they opened their envelopes in College today.
The overall pass rate has increased one per cent this year to 96% and a total of 24 of our A Level courses achieved a 100% pass rate.
The top student, Rajan Mistry, formerly of Royal Liberty School, achieved an incredible 4 A*s in Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics and will go on to study Physics at Durham University. He said: “It has been two years of hard work but it has been worth it for these grades!”
Principal Paul Wakeling was thrilled with the results saying he was proud of the students and staff for such a great achievement.
He said: “I am once again delighted to announce excellent outcomes for our students in 2017. Our overall A Level pass rate, passes at A* and A, high grades A*-B and A-C are all at their highest for the last three years.
“We have a 96% overall pass rate (up 1% on last year), 11% of students achieved A*-A (up 1% on last year), 33% of students achieved A*-B (up 3% on last year), 64% of students achieved A*-C (up 6% on last year) and over 80% of courses achieved pass rates of 90% or more.
“Many of our students complete mixed programmes incorporating one or more single subject BTEC courses, success on these programmes is also very high at 95% with high grades at 61%.
“One third of our students now study predominantly vocational courses and we are delighted also to report that 62% of those students achieved a Distinction and 30% achieved a Distinction* which is a fantastic success for all concerned.
“An incredible 100% of students studying BTEC Engineering achieved Distinction grades with a phenomenal 72% achieving at the very highest level giving them a double Distinction* grade.
“Havering Sixth Form College welcomes students of all abilities and offers a very broad curriculum - 47 A Levels, over 80 courses in total, a wide and growing range of enrichments and work-related opportunities - and we are pleased that we enjoy success across that broad offer.
“In addition, I am also delighted that we are expecting that in the region of 700 students once again will be progressing to university and we are expecting that our pattern of 10% of students going to Russell Group universities will continue.
“A significant number of our students will be embarking on superb employment opportunities maintaining our record on achieving high quality destinations for all of our students.
“We are very proud of this achievement for both our students and staff that will contribute towards our mission to be recognised regionally and nationally, as a centre of excellence for high quality education, social inclusion and outstanding progression for our students.”
Students’ progression to higher education and employment, following their studies, is particularly good. The college is the best-performing college in east London for student progression to positive destinations, and is in the top 10% of all schools, sixth forms and colleges in the UK. Sixty-seven per cent of 2015/16 leavers successfully progressed to higher education and 22% obtained full-time employment. The college maintains excellent links with its past students. The percentage of the college’s past students obtaining good honours degrees has been increasing year on year, and in 2015, 76% of the college’s past students completing their degrees achieved first and upper second class honours.
