The sky’s the limit for brave Bethan and Emily

Thrill-seeking students Emily Hurrell and Bethan Little will be putting their fears aside and taking to the skies to raise money for a children’s charity.

The adventurous pair have signed up for a 15,000ft Skydive above the countryside of Cornwall on July 27th for the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Emily, 18, formerly of Marshalls Park School, and Bethan, also 18, and from St Edward’s CofE School, say they are terrified but excited about the prospect of jumping out of a plane at the maximum height allowed without an oxygen supply.

Emily said: “I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie. I love theme parks and I love doing anything exhilarating. When I met Bethan and found she was the same as me, we decided to do the skydive because it’s something we’ve both always wanted to do, but then we thought we’d also like to raise money for charity at the same time.”

Bethan added: “I’ve done some scary things before but nothing this extreme or crazy. But I’ll try anything and I can’t wait till me and Emily are in that plane together, waiting to jump out!”

The students met last year when they both began studying the BTEC Science Extended Diploma at College and they have become firm friends.

Bethan, who teaches swimming and life-guarding to adults and children in her spare time, said: “We’re inseparable now – we will definitely be life-long friends. We’re in all the same lessons together and we both really like college. I can’t think of anyone I’d rather do the skydive with.

“We chose Make-a-Wish as our charity because we both love children and it’s a charity close to my heart because some of the children I teach to swim have disabilities or medical problems.”

Emily, who works at Tesco in her spare time, said: “People have been surprised but really supportive when we tell them what we are going to do. My family and Bethan’s family are right behind us, although they do think we are slightly mad!”

Make-a-Wish is a charity which grants terminally ill children or those with life threatening medical conditions their last wishes to give them precious memories to treasure forever.
