Charity presentation to St Francis Hospice at College Open Day

A special presentation to St Francis Hospice was made by staff and students during the College’s Open Day on Saturday 19th November.

A cheque for £1,309.34 was handed over by Principal Paul Wakeling and College Council students, Sigourney Hove and Alice Sellar, to Chris Holmes from the hospice, in the busy Quad and Atrium.

The money was raised by donations from College students and from fundraising events held, such as a cake sale and head shave.

Paul Wakeling said: “We are delighted to hand over this sum to one of our dedicated College charities.

The students work hard during the year organising events to raise money for charity and it is good for the College to give back to our local community.”

Chris Holmes said: “It is fantastic to receive this money today. The College students and staff have done a great job in raising this amount. I am pleased St Francis Hospice will be working with the College in the future to fundraise and raise awareness.”

The Open Day was a great success with more than 2,000 visitors attending to look around the College, listen to subject presentations and talk with tutors about courses.

Prospective students and their parents were also able to find out information about careers, finance, support, Aiming High programmes, Progression Year, and the teaching and learning ethos of the College.

The next College Open Day will be held on Saturday 14th January, 10am to 4pm.
