Munaib is off to Cambridge University to study Medicine after achieving a fantastic 4 A*s in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Extended Project, and a B grade in AS Further Maths.

Munaib, whose father is a baker at Sainsbury’s supermarket and mother is a receptionist in a GP surgery, came to Havering Sixth Form College from Forest Gate Community School and lives in Forest Gate.

Overwhelmed with his results, he thanked his teachers and the Careers staff at College, saying: “This isn’t only my success, so many people at Havering Sixth Form deserve praise for this. I couldn’t have done this without the support of the teachers. I wouldn’t have got the grades if it wasn’t for them. I will always remember these people and what they have done for me.”

He added: “The motivation to be successful originates from me but my success originates from the people around me who have given me such great advice and encouragement.”

He says he originally wanted to come to the College because of the Oxbridge Medical Group programme which is aimed at students who want a career in Medicine or Pharmacy. He also feels the Aim Higher Honours programme for Gifted and Talented students helped enormously with his application to Cambridge University.

He said: “My parents are not academics and nobody in my family is in Medicine, so they are very proud. But they would have been proud if I’d have got Ds and Es. My dad just said, do your best.”
