Isabella wins Havering Young Artist of the Year Award
Congratulations to former Sixth Form student Isabella Pavitt who won first place in the Havering Young Artist of the Year Award 2020 for Key Stage 5. Another Sixth Form student, Syed Murshed, was awarded second place.
Isabella’s artwork which caught the eye of the panel of judges, was a screen print on fabric titled ‘language reconstructed’.
Due to the virus, this year the competition, run by Frances Bardsley’s The Appleby Gallery, was a virtual one with work judged by photographs. The Mayor of Havering, Councillor John Mylod, who said he was extremely impressed with the talent on show, announced the winners in a virtual presentation via YouTube.
Isabella won an artist pack that was donated by Tesco at Gallows Corner, Romford.
She said: “I was so pleased to have won and want to say thank you to my tutors at the sixth form. I want to express my gratitude for all the support I received during college art classes that helped me to reach this achievement - I am truly grateful!”
Artists from all schools, colleges and sixth forms in Havering entered the competition.
Isabella, who left college in the summer, achieved three A*s in A Level Fine Art, Sociology and English and an A in the Extended Project Qualification. She is now studying the Fashion Retail, Business and Marketing Diploma at the Fashion Retail Academy.
