It has been another excellent year at Havering Sixth Form College, staff and students are now enjoying a well-earned summer break and getting ready for the challenges of the new academic year.
We started the year by receiving confirmation of the excellent destinations of our students. Our students attend top universities and secure excellent high-level and well paid apprenticeships. We know that Havering Sixth Form College is in the top 10% of all schools and colleges in the country for ensuring that our students progress to positive destinations.
This work has been reinforced this year, with students receiving good University offers for 2018 as well as securing great employment. To ensure that this work continues we have invested more money in our award winning CUBE (Careers, University, Business and Employment) facility, which supports all students ensuring that they progress to excellent destinations. The team has now been expanded to meet the need to find high quality industry placements for our vocational students.
During the year we have been delighted with the work that our students have been doing. Attendance in classes, and in our study areas, has been the highest in a decade and performance in course-work and in-year assessments is also impressive. We received recognition again in the Havering Learning Partnership Education Awards, gaining the Best Performance in Technical award to highlight excellent results and successful teaching in courses including Creative Media, Gaming, Engineering and Health & Social Care and the College was also awarded the Best Progress for Post-16 English GCSE award. 5 individual staff were also given recognition for their contributions to helping students to make great progress.
Over the Summer period we are again improving our facilities – our Library is having a complete refurbishment to create a centre for learning and literacy where alongside traditional reading spaces there will be a large IT suite where students can access thousands of publications via the e-library.
If you are planning on joining us after the summer break, I hope you enjoy your summer but please ensure that take careful note of all our communications with you, applications this year are at their highest so you will need to make sure that you do attend your enrolment interview to secure your place. At enrolment you will be set a first assignment that you will need to complete, full instructions will be given at enrolment.
