Drama students go on tour with Woyzeck
Drama students took their latest production, Woyzeck, on tour to local schools – and received high praise for their performances.
The upper sixth students, who are studying the Performing Arts (Acting) BTEC Subsidiary Diploma, formed the Eighth Imagination Theatre Company to put on a retold version of George Buchner’s tale of morality. Woyzeck is based on the true event of a soldier living in poverty, who is executed for stabbing his wife, Marie, to death.
The tour visited four local schools, Redden Court, Bower Park, Brittons and Royal Liberty, and the students also gave two evening performances at College.
The play was performed ‘in the round’ with a blacked out setting and the audience sat on stage with the actors. The students had to transport the set from school to school and set up before the play started.
It was well received by teachers and pupils at the four schools and they found a Question and Answer session at the end particularly helpful.
Gemma Lord, the Lead Drama Teacher at Redden Court School, said after the event: “It was a fantastic performance and the Q&A session was a brilliant idea.
“My students definitely benefited from this valuable experience - it was wonderful that the College students could share their work with us. The performers were a credit to Havering Sixth Form - regarding both their performance, work and conduct.”
College Performing Arts teacher Viccki Beck said that it was hoped the College could work together again with local schools in the future.
