Around the world with Tourism students at Freshers’ Week
Students hoping to start courses at Havering Sixth Form in September had the chance to spend a day experiencing lessons in College.
Freshers’ Week was enjoyed by over 1,000 Year 11 students who had a tour of the College, met teachers, signed up for sports teams, took part in auditions and attended sessions to learn more about the subjects they expect to study.
As part of the Travel & Tourism experience, current students had set up an Around the World Travel Market with information, flags, stalls, food and photographs from a range of countries and cities across the globe.
Visiting students were able to try a variety of international drinks and snacks and ask questions about the Level 3 BTEC Travel & Tourism course. They also had the opportunity to sit in the College’s unique life-size iFly airplane where Air Cabin Crew training takes place.
Other students tried out lessons in more than 70 different courses offered at Havering Sixth Form College, such as Geology, Sociology, Law, Engineering, Arts and Media, Fashion and Textiles, Spanish, Philosophy, Government & Politics, Business and Accounting.
One student said after the event: “I really liked the friendly environment and it made me feel more confident about finding my way around when I start in September.”
Another said: “The teachers were enthusiastic and it was good to be around other students who wanted to learn and contribute.”
And one wrote about the day: “The subject sessions were useful and it has allowed me to narrow down my course choices.”
