Garden of Reflection opened in memory of Erica Jones
A special Memorial Garden has been created for one of the College’s most highly regarded Faculty Leaders, Erica Jones, who sadly passed away last year.
The Garden of Reflection was officially opened by College Principal Paul Wakeling, Erica’s mother Mavis and other members of her family, and the ceremony was attended by many members of staff.
Paul said at the opening that Erica was very special to all those who knew her. She started her career with the College as Head of Department of Leisure and Tourism in 2004, and then progressed to a number of different roles, including Sector Leader and then a member of the Senior Executive.
Paul added: “She was without doubt an exceptional line manager and a fantastic teacher. Her warm personality and generosity of spirit, combined with a great sense of humour, inspired loyalty from the people with whom she worked and created a great team spirit. She was a great Subject Sector Leader and had a real commitment to students, which was very evident in Executive discussions.
Erica passed away after a long battle with cancer in October 2015. Her funeral and burial was held at St Laurence Church, in Upminster.
The garden was created and tended by Premises Assistant, Gary Taylor, who has responsibility for the upkeep of the College grounds.
It is being used regularly by students and staff for quiet reflection during breaks from study and work.
