Legal Secretaries impress law firm recruiters at networking event
A networking event involving recruiters from prestigious law firms and run by our Legal Secretaries students was hailed a tremendous success by all who attended.
The event brought together students on the CILEx Legal Secretaries qualification and a host of representatives from the legal profession to talk about career opportunities.
Students Sophie Galley, Jessica Trickett, Lydia Evans, Alex Evenden, Grace Evans and Bella O’Connor were the main organisers and were given special mention for their efforts by course tutors Nushe Chowdhry and Anita Browne.
Lydia said: “It’s been very hectic to organise but it has paid off. It was a good experience to meet all the reps from the law firms and has helped us so much in thinking about our futures.”
Sam Hacking, from global law firm Linklaters, said the event was a great opportunity for the employers to meet the students and for the students to gather information about the recruitment process.
She said: “We have been impressed with all the students who have worked so well as a team. They have shown great organisational skills and have really taken responsibility for the event. We have also noticed how confident they are in approaching the guests – they have shown amazing maturity.”
The students organised invitations for the guests, put on a buffet and drinks and arranged for the visitors to speak with students in an informal ‘network’ gathering.
Awards to outstanding students were then presented by Principal Paul Wakeling.
Paul said: “This networking event organised by our fantastic students has shown that effective partnerships are very beneficial to everyone. It’s a win-win situation for students to help their learning and development and for employers to meet potential future employees.
“It is important we work with employers because we want our students to be successful adults – we want to give them good qualifications but also skills that employers need.”
