Employability workshops inspire Business students to reach for career goals
A Recruitment and Selection Day at Havering Sixth Form College has inspired Business students to reach for their career goals.
Students on the Level 2 Business BTEC First Certificate course were given the chance to develop employability skills during the day which culminated in a mock job interview and feedback on performance.
Dressed in smart attire as if they were attending a real interview, more than 40 students took part in the day which involved workshops on CV writing, application forms and preparing for an interview.
Led by Stephen George and Claudia Lasite from Prospects careers service, the sessions motivated students to aim high and gave them practical advice on applying for jobs and tips on how to impress at an interview.
Claudia said: “It has been a very good day – the students have been attentive and have represented the College well. They presented themselves at the interviews excellently and they all looked extremely smart.”
Business Tutor Deniz Halil, who organised the event, said: “This Interview Day was run as part of the Recruitment and Selection unit of the Level 2 Business BTEC course and it gave the students lots of ideas on how they can give themselves the best chance of employment. They were all interviewed by experienced careers advisors who then gave them feedback on their performance and some great advice on interview technique.”
One of the students who took part in the day said: “I was given advice on the best way to complete application forms and the feedback after my interview gave me some points to work on which was really useful. I’m now more aware of what employers are looking for when recruiting for a job role.”
