Reading Ahead scheme launched at College Library
Students are being offered the chance to join the Reading Ahead scheme which has been launched at the Havering Sixth Form College Library.
Run by the Reading Agency, the national scheme challenges students to choose six reads, rate and then review them. When the challenge is complete, names are entered into a national prize draw and the student receives a certificate.
Reading Ahead is designed to inspire an enjoyment of reading at the same time as improving literacy skills. The programme takes place every year in public libraries, colleges and workplaces.
Students register to a website and the aim is to create an online community to enrich the experience of those taking part. Participants are able to create an online profile, share views about what they read and search the unique Find a Read database.
Reading is not restricted to books – students can read almost anything they like; newspapers, poems, plays, websites, blogs and more.
Current students can visit the College library to join the scheme or email firstname.lastname@example.org for further information.
The Reading Ahead website is here: https://readingahead.org.uk/
In partnership with Havering Library Service, students are also being offered a free, special membership to all libraries within the borough in a special Join Up January campaign.
This includes e-books, information resources and digital magazines. Further information and joining forms are available at libraries.
