Sporting success for College teams
Netballers put on the performance of their season, winning 14 – 8 against St Dominic’s Sixth Form College in a competitive AoC league match.
Unfortunately, the game had to be shortened due to St Dom’s arriving late after getting stuck in traffic during the journey from their campus in Harrow on the Hill, North West London.
But there were excellent performances all round from the Havering Sixth Form players and they dominated the game from the start. As the match went on, they piled on the pressure which forced interceptions and allowed our team to capitalise and score. The team were: Left to right, Deborah Nzau, Dzestina Moliejute, Safi Zamiate, Fine Okemadu, Britney Owusu, Abbie Lagden, Jodie Packham and Valerie Njenga.
There were also successes in both men’s and women’s AoC Basketball league matches with the men’s team winning convincingly in a home game against New City College Epping Forest, with a score of 62 – 35 and the women beating St Charles Sixth Form College, from North Kensington, 47 – 44, in a very close-fought match. Both teams are coached by Urysla Cotton and Damien Plummer.
The men’s team consisted of Khalid Adisa, Zuri Loftman-Minors, Frank Duah, Nicholas Saunders, Luke Matthews and Oclair Robinet and the winning women’s team was Corina Birca, Layota Raphael, Maria Ruano Delgado, Jaznial Bolton and Khadikat Ajonbadi.
Students interested in Basketball had the chance to attend a presentation about the Tony Parker Adéquat Basketball Academy which is based in Lyon, France.
Director of Recruitment, Lauranne Bardin, visited Havering Sixth Form to speak with students about the undergraduate programmes available, which start this September 2019. Tony Parker is a French professional basketball player who currently plays in the NBA for the Charlotte Hornets. He has set up the academy so that students can mix their passion of playing basketball with their studies, and each student is guaranteed a job at the end of the course.

A Rugby event held at Saracens in Woodford Green was attended by 16 of our students. The trip has boosted interest in the sport and training sessions are being planned with a possible match fixture against another team before the end of the year.
