Students celebrate excellent results

Students were celebrating at the sixth form today after receiving fantastic A Level results.

Two students will be taking up places at Oxford University and many more were accepted onto courses at the universities they had applied for.

The overall A Level pass rate was 95% and passes at A* and A, high grades A*-B and grades A-C were all excellent.

  • 117 students achieved A*-A
  • 419 students achieved A*-B
  • 876 students achieved A*-C

In addition, 100% pass rates were gained in many courses with almost all attaining pass rates in excess of 93%.

The facilitating subjects favoured by the Russell Group Universities such as Chemistry, Computer Science, English Literature, Spanish, and the arts – Textiles, Photography, Graphics, Architecture & Interior Design and Fine Art all achieved 100% pass rates.

Top student Abbie Morgan achieved an incredible 3 A* grades in Computer Science, Maths and Further Maths. She will be taking a gap year before applying to university to do Computer Science next year.

She said: “I’m very pleased – I was hoping for good grades but I wasn’t expecting three A*s! I worked hard – I practically lived in the IT rooms – and I used all my free periods to study and revise. I’m going to spend my gap year tutoring GCSE Maths in schools, so it will be nice to step down a bit from the rigours of A Level!”

Many students now study predominantly vocational courses and fantastic results were achieved in BTEC qualifications too. There were 80 students who gained the top mark of a Triple Distinction* with high numbers of Distinctions and excellent progression to work and university.

These excellent results mean that around 700 students will progress to university, and students’ progression to Russell Group universities is expected to be very good.

A significant number of our students will be embarking on superb employment opportunities maintaining our record on achieving high quality destinations for all of our students.

Havering Colleges Principal and CEO, Paul Wakeling, said: “I am very proud of this achievement for both our students and staff. It will contribute towards our mission to be recognised regionally and nationally, as a centre of excellence for high quality education, social inclusion and outstanding progression.

“The Havering Colleges Sixth Form welcomes students of all abilities and offers a very broad curriculum - 35 A Levels and 65 courses in total with a wide and growing range of enrichments and work-related opportunities - and we are pleased that we enjoy success across that broad offer.”
