Angela Watkinson MP cuts ribbon to officially open new CUBE centre
The College’s new CUBE careers centre has been officially opened by Hornchurch and Upminster MP Angela Watkinson.
Mrs Watkinson visited the College to meet students and staff and performed the official ribbon cutting opening ceremony in the CUBE (Careers, University, Business Links and Employment).
The CUBE is a brand new area in the College where students can go to receive support and advice on their futures – whether they want to go to university, find a job or start on an apprenticeship scheme.
Students can also gain access to work experience opportunities and get help with their UCAS applications from staff in the Cube.
Mrs Watkinson said she was very happy to be involved in the official opening and had been delighted by the students she had met. She was also impressed by the latest Government figures showing that Havering Sixth Form was the top college in East London for student progression to positive destinations.
She said: “It is very encouraging to hear that many of the female students I spoke to are concentrating on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects. The work that is carried out here in the CUBE is crucial to the futures of many students and I have been very impressed by this new facility and the resources that are available to help students progress after leaving college.”
The CUBE staff also showed Conservative MP Mrs Watkinson the Loop Award for Careers Advice which they recently won – an award that is based on student feedback and awarded to those colleges which are raising standards.
