Oxbridge Conference boosts students’ confidence
High-achieving students had the chance to attend the annual Oxford and Cambridge Student Conference where they were given information about applying to the UK’s top two universities.
The group travelled to the Epsom Downs Racecourse venue in Surrey for a day of talks, presentations and seminars.
In addition to subject-specific information and guidance on the application process, the students were able to talk to current Oxbridge undergraduates about student life at the universities and they were given important information on student finance and careers.
College Careers Co-ordinator Nikki Phelps said the students all felt they had benefited from the day trip and were now more confident in making an Oxbridge university application.
Student Samila Khatun said: “At first I didn't think the trip would be beneficial to me, but in the end I am so glad that I went. The conference gave me lots of helpful tips for the application process and gave me a little boost in confidence to apply to one of the top universities.”
College Council member Katie White said: “I am now much more confident in knowing how to apply to both unis and I am more familiar with the grades that I would need to study a specific course.”
And student Johncel Perez added: “I really liked the subject taster sessions which have helped me make up my mind about choosing the course that I want. I would recommend the conference to other students, especially if you're thinking about the more competitive universities.”
