The students, Bethesda Owoo, Asiya Aweis, Jamila Choudhury, Ketan Mandalia, Lewis Reed, Mehak Tariq, Nathália Bracarense Guimaraes Moura, Rebecca Oduntan, Ayokunle Meshe, Denisa Demian, Shivangi Patel, Gwan Choi, Oyinkansola Ajayi, Rameel Khan, Dhiraj Patel, Evans Egoruvwe and Laverne Legrand were chosen from thousands of applicants.
They will now be able to take part in exciting employment gap year programmes, experience masterclasses and taster days at Russell Group Universities, and gain work experience and internships with top City firms, including Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Barclays, Herbert Smith and PWC.
The students will all have a professional and university mentor supporting them through the UCAS application process and some have been selected for training events and work experience at partner employers.
One of those selected for work experience was Gwan Choi. She said: “I come from an ethnic minority where I was the first generation to receive an education. This year joining SEO, they provided me with an opportunity to work in Latham & Watkins, an international law firm.
“At first I was intimidated to work in a superior environment but because SEO believed in me, I had the courage to believe in myself. After joining the programme, I have gained various skills such as confidence and independence and this has made me motivated to do the best I can for my future career. I would definitely recommend SEO scholars to everyone as this is an opportunity to get closer to your achievements.”
