Welcome to the Governors page of our website. We are delighted that you want to find out about the Corporation (Governing Body) at Havering Sixth Form College and hope you will find everything you need here. However, if you would like any more information, please contact Cathy Horne, the Clerk to the Corporation, by email at email@example.com
Governors represent the interests of the local and wider community and support the College in providing a high quality, effective learning experience for its students in a well-resourced and appropriate learning environment.
Governors are volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds who bring a mix of expertise, experience, energy and commitment. The Governors agree the strategic direction of the College, set objectives and monitor results. They ensure the solvency of the College and the safeguarding of its assets.
These are exciting and challenging times for us, with ambitious growth plans and a mission that states “staff and students will participate fully in the process of education and through great teaching and learning, working with strong partners, Havering Sixth Form College will ensure outstanding progression for students to high quality destinations".
The Corporation, comprising 20 members and advised by an independent clerk, meets eight times each year and is supported by five committees which undertake some of the more detailed work. There are two strategy sessions each year as well as regular training and development opportunities.
Members also have informal opportunities to visit the College throughout the year, attending events such as awards evenings, drama productions and art exhibitions. Some members become Link Governors which enables them to visit curriculum and support areas to gain a deeper understanding of College life.
Corporation members are keen to ensure continuous improvement in their own work as governors as well as for the College as a whole. To do this they take part in a range of self-evaluation activities, including one-to-one reviews and evaluating meetings. The Corporation also has its own Quality Improvement Plan which is monitored regularly.
Thinking of becoming a Governor
Although there are currently no vacancies for Independent Members on the Corporation, we are always keen to talk to interested people. We aim to have a broad spectrum of people on the Corporation who bring a diverse range of skills and experiences. One way in which you can get a feel for what being a Governor is all about is by browsing the Governance section of our website and reading some of our meeting minutes. If you feel you could offer something which could help to improve both the College and the lives of local young people, we would love to hear from you. Please contact Cathy Horne, Clerk to the Corporation, on 01708 514400 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
